Combo Roof Waterproofing by Saba Al Waha

Combo roof waterproofing gives UAE buildings two kinds of protection in one system: a waterproof membrane to stop leaks and a thermal insulation layer to keep heat out. Saba Al Waha designs and installs complete combo roof systems for villas, buildings and warehouses in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and all emirates.

What is a combo roof system?

A combo roof is a layered build-up laid on the roof slab. A typical system includes a primer, a waterproofing membrane, rigid insulation boards (such as extruded polystyrene), a separation layer, a sloped screed to drain water, and a finishing layer such as tiles or a protective coating. Each layer has a job, and together they protect the structure and cut cooling costs.

Benefits for UAE properties

  • Lower cooling bills – insulation reduces the heat entering the building through the roof, one of the largest sources of heat gain in summer.
  • Leak protection – the membrane sits under the insulation, where it is shielded from UV and temperature swings, so it lasts longer.
  • Proper drainage – the screed is laid to falls so water runs to the drains instead of ponding.
  • Longer roof life – the slab is protected from water, heat cycling and cracking.
  • More comfortable top floors – rooms under the roof stay noticeably cooler.

Where it is used

  • Flat and low-slope roofs on villas, residential towers and offices
  • Roof refurbishment where the old waterproofing has failed
  • Warehouses, schools and commercial buildings looking to reduce energy use

Our installation process

  1. Inspection and design – we check the slab, drains and existing layers and agree the build-up and finish with you.
  2. Preparation – old failed layers removed where needed, surface cleaned and repaired.
  3. Waterproofing – primer and membrane applied, with detailing at parapets, drains and penetrations.
  4. Flood test – the membrane is tested before it is covered.
  5. Insulation and screed – insulation boards laid tight, followed by a separation layer and screed to falls.
  6. Finish – tiles, coating or another agreed final layer.

All work is carried out by our own trained crews under a dedicated supervisor, using manufacturer-approved materials from suppliers such as BASF, Mapei and Henkel.

Frequently asked questions

Is a combo roof worth it for an existing villa?

If your roof is leaking or the top floor gets very hot, a combo roof fixes both problems at once and often pays back through lower air-conditioning costs.

How thick is the insulation?

Thickness depends on the building and any authority or consultant requirements. We confirm it in the quotation after the site visit.

Can you work on an occupied building?

Yes. We plan the work in sections and keep the roof protected at the end of each day.
